Stupid is as Legislators do… Microstamping and Serialization

July 7th, 2008

For those of you that don’t know, the Liberal Left is trying to remove your right to bear arms, by requiring all ammunition to be serialized with a laser, burning a serial number on to the bottom (inside) of the projectile.

Microstamping is another method, by which legislators are trying to force that all firearms manufacturers place a system to microstamp the casings as the rounds are fired, making a mark that is readable under high magnification.  Needless to say, this is going to be a significant modification to firearms manufacturing, making the high pressure breach area of a weapon more complex, with more moving parts, and increasing the chances of failure, dangerous conditions, jamming and lowering overall weapons effectiveness.  Not just for the casual sportman, but for the police and protection forces as well.

We already have the National Integrated Ballistics Information Network (NIBIN) and Integrated Ballistic Identification Systems (IBIS) systems with spent casings and ballistics information from recovered rounds, why do we need another?  (We don’t)

It seems to me that these “legislators” don’t have the first clue as to how criminals actually function.

  1. What criminal is going to purchase “serialized” ammo, legally, and then go commit a crime with it? Really?  Are they simply going to remove or bypass the microstamping mechnism in the weapon?
  2. Who is this going to benefit? Law enforcement is against it, ammunition manufacturers don’t feel that this can be adequately and safely accomplished, so let’s really explore this…

It’s a tax on LEGAL firearms owners, who will have to pay the increased costs of ammunition, destroy their own loaded or pre-purchased ammunition at their own costs, and pay more for the RIGHT to bear arms.

A great article that explains this further is located on the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) website.  Please note, the NSSF has sponsored many responsible weapons control bills, in an attempt to make our country safer.

We really need to get these clowns in check, before we lose all of our rights…

See a list of the current legislation surrounding bullet serialization in the US here. And the microstamping legislation is here.

Mr. Bill was the Highlight of the Range!

May 10th, 2008

While going to the range, I got to see “Mr. Bill”, a friend of a friend who just came back from throat cancer surgery. He is looking great! and it amazing spirits! “Mr. Bill”, it was great to see you again!

Also, I got to shoot Obiedon’s new 45/70, and now I HAVE to have one. It was way too cool, and wasn’t as bad as I expected.

I shot pretty well with my Kimber, but experienced three jams, that were completely my fault. My wrist was breaking too early, and too much reducing energy on the slide to eject the empty casing clearly. Oddly enough, it only occurred on the last round of the magazine. I think it had to do with the fact that I count my shots in my head, and knowing it was the last round, I simply lost focus on the last shot.

I will be going back to work on that issue, and hopefully can determine how to better prevent that from happening.

The 45/70 shot like a dream, and now I’m very excited by the proposition of owning own, and then going Elk Hunting with it.

I’ll keep you posted…
